Age Discrimination
Age discrimination has become particularly prevalent due to a large population of the workforce growing older. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967 protects employees who are 40 years of age or older. Discrimination against employees over the age of 40 run a very fine line — often it occurs when highly compensated individuals are cut from their positions due to a company’s cost-savings goal. If you have been working for many years, are perhaps even in upper management, and have been terminated from your position only to be replaced by a younger, lower salaried and less experienced individual, you may have a valid age discrimination claim. This is not the only example of age discrimination, and we represent clients who have experienced age discrimination in many other scenarios.
Disability Discrimination
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 protects employees from discrimination based upon “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.” Common examples of disabilities include paraplegia and quadriplegia, visual impairments, hearing impairments, learning disabilities and some mental illnesses. If you have been discriminated against at work or were passed up for a job because of a disability, you may have a valid claim.
